JaZzLine INSTITUTE

The JaZzLine INSTITUTE is hereby established to preserve, maintain, and foster the cultural heritage of the African-American Musical Diaspora (AAMD).

The JaZzLine INSTITUTE further endeavors to interpret, educate, document, promote and present artistic forms of music created and designed by African-American descendants of free and enslaved African people.

JaZzLine INSTITUTE offers music education and preservation to promote the cultural importance of the African-American music diaspora. Contact us today to learn more about our work and ongoing commitment to sharing the joy, excitement, and historical impact of this music (the Evolution of the Blues) with new generations. In this regard, Wayne Shorter’s composition Footprints, and John Coltrane’s composition Giant Steps, speak to the legacy that invigorates our mission of leaving this planet in a better place.

Visit the Awards page to view the ever-growing list of recipients of the eight JaZzLine INSTITUTE awards and to acknowledge their contributions to African-American music from the voice to the drum, throughout the evolution of the BLUES. Our panel considers a range of factors when choosing nominees, and we aim to celebrate and recognize figures from all corners of our music culture – from renowned artists to those behind the scenes who play a significant role.
